Israel Update

My Brother Alephs,

As many of you know, Israel has been going through some difficult times recently. Between suicide bombings, riots and failed peace negotiations, Israel has perhaps never needed more support then now. So, I have compiled a list of sites that provide news pertaining to Israel. Remember, Israel is the Jewish homeland, not just for those living there, but a place where all jews can go. I hope you will all look over these websites, keep up to date on the events in our homeland, and pray for peace in Israel.

B'shalom,
Aleph Shaliach Josh Nason

www.jpost.com - Internet version of the Jerusalem Post, a prominent Israeli newspaper, good current events
http://www3.haaretz.co.il/eng/htmls/1_1.htm - English version of Haaretz, another prominent Israeli newspaper, published together with International Herald Tribune, good overall coverage
www.mfa.gov.il - Israel Foreign Ministry, current events, and links to Israeli government sites
www.camera.org - CAMERA-Commitee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting in America, contains information on political bias in the media
www.kolisrael.com - Israeli Search Engine, contains links to dozens of Online Newspapers, Radio Stations, etc., helps to find different sides of the story

Note: many of the sites on this page come from the USY International Web page.

Hatikva - Israeli National Anthem
Kol od balevav penima
Nefesh Yehudi homiya,
Ulfa'atey mizrach kadima
Ayin leTziyon tzofiya -
Od lo avda tikvatenu,
Hatikva bat shnot alpayim,
Lihyot am chofshi be'artzenu,
Eretz Tziyon viYerushalayim

The Hope (Translation of Hatikva)
As long as still within our breasts
the Jewish heart beats true.
As long as still towards the east to
Zion looks the Jew.

So long our hopes are not yet lost.
Two thousand years we've
cherished them.
To live in freedom in our land, the
land of Zion and Jerusalem
